With more and more stories coming out about the effects of the pandemic on healthcare workers, some nurses are choosing to speak candidly about their mental health to raise awareness.
Ashley Carrier has been a nurse and team leader at the Saint-Joseph CHSLD for three years and has admitted this past year has been incredibly difficult for both her and her team.
For Carrier, symptoms of burnout began manifesting themselves through a dwindling love for her profession. According to her, the everchanging world of a CHSLD nurses and the constant readapting to make her patients and team feel safe has begun to wear her down.
“We are trying our best to keep up,” said Carrier. “It’s a lot of adapting, it’s a lot of organization and we’re trying the best that we can. But it has me thinking, is this what I want to do for the rest of my life?”
Stemming from feelings of moving further and further away from normalcy, Carrier said the biggest shock for her was the inability to host in-person meetings with medical professionals.
