The Estrie region reported nine new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, March 7, continuing a downward trend in recent weeks. One month ago, on Feb. 7, Estrie reported 43 new cases. Two months ago, on Jan. 7, the region reported 146.
The total number of people infected in the region since the beginning of the pandemic is 11,682. There are currently 190 active cases in Estrie.
No new deaths were reported in the last day, keeping the total stable at 306.
The province is still hovering around 700, with 707 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Quebec on Sunday. The total number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic is 292,631. According to public health, 275,095 people have recovered, and 7,100 cases are active in the province.
Seven new deaths were reported in Quebec on Sunday, bringing the total to 10,472.
Hospitalizations decreased by nine for a total of 592, and there are 107 patients in intensive care, down two from the previous day.
Quebec is averaging around 16,394 vaccinations per day, with 548,136 administered so far, roughly 6.5 per cent of the population.
In the Estrie region, 21,148 people have been vaccinated to date.
The number of cases of COVID-19 variants is now 194, and there are an additional 1,700 presumptive cases in the province.
Among the 194 confirmed cases, the majority are the U.K. or B.1.1.7. variant, and most were reported in the Montreal (116), Laval (15), Laurentides (10) and Lanaudière (6) regions.
Estrie has three confirmed cases of the U.K. variant.
The South African or B.1.351 variant has been confirmed in Abitibi-Témiscamingue (40 cases) and Laurentides (1), as well as one case where the person’s residence is unconfirmed.
Montreal also has two cases of other unspecified variants, which are not considered a significant threat but are being monitored.
