Although the provincial public health authority’s morning report put the number of doses administered at 2,967,209 on Wednesday morning, Health Minister Christian Dubé announced on Twitter mid-afternoon that Quebec’s 3 millionth dose had been given by the afternoon.
3,298,629 doses have been received by the province so far, in total, with 137,200 doses of Moderna still expected this week.
The Province of Quebec reported 1,094 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the total number of people infected to 347,690. Although that figure represented an increase of nearly 200 compared to the previous day’s number, the total number of active cases still decreased, dropping below 10,000 for the first time since March to reach 9,948.
There were 12 new deaths reported, but the total number of deaths only increased by 10 to 10,908, due to the withdrawal of two deaths not attributable to COVID-19.
The number of hospitalizations on Thursday was 643, a decrease of 24; and the number of people in intensive care was 161, a decrease of nine.
In the Eastern Townships the number of new cases bounced back up to 57 on Wednesday, with the number of active cases also rising to 420. The largest increase was in the Granit sub-region, which continues to have the highest concentration of infection in relation to its population. Wednesday’s additions saw 21 new cases there, bringing the total number of active cases in that area to 87.
There was one new death in the community, but no change to the number of people in hospital or intensive care.
167,200 people in the Townships have received their first dose, 2,449 of whom have now received a second.
