The Province of Quebec recorded 551 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the total number of people infected to 363,847 and the number of active cases to 7,011. This was the lowest number of new daily cases for the province since September.
The report of eight new deaths linked to the virus increased that total to 11,042, but the number of hospitalizations in the province overall decreased by seven, to 501. The number of people in intensive care also went down, dropping by three to 116.
There were only 29 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the Eastern Townships on Monday, a significant decrease from recent reports that have been closer to 50. As a result, the number of active cases dropped back below 500 to 476. There were no new deaths recorded on Monday, and the number of hospitalizations and people in intensive care sat at 20 and eight, respectively.
The province’s vaccination campaign continues to move forward, meanwhile, with the total number of doses administered climbing to 4,396,507. This figure accounts for a first dose in 49 per cent of Quebecers, and a second in 2.9 per cent.
Quebec is expecting to receive another 1,299,340 doses this week, including 917,280 doses of Pfizer, 233,960 doses of Moderna, and 148,100 doses of AstraZeneca.
In the Eastern Townships 245,050 people have received a first dose, making up 48.5 per cent of the population of the region, and 16,426 (or 3.3 per cent) of those have received their second dose. Broken down by age group, 81.1 per cent of 60-69 year-olds, 90.3 per cent of 70-79 year-olds, and 91.1 per cent of those 80 and over in the region have received a first dose, with coverage of those 16-59 years of age is catching up, at 41.6 per cent.
