The Province of Quebec reported 193 cases of COVID-19 on Monday, marking the second day in a row that the number of new cases came in under 200. As a result, the total number of people infected since the start of the pandemic in the province increased to 371,960, of which 2,587 were still active.
The total number of hospitalizations across the province was 265, 58 of whom were in intensive care, and there were three new deaths reported, for a total of 11,152.
In the Eastern Townships Monday’s report brought 15 new cases, but the total number of active cases decreased to 159.
The region recorded no new deaths, and 24 people were in hospital for reasons related to the virus, two of whom were in intensive care.
So far Quebec has administered 6,164,612 doses of vaccine, accounting for a first dose in 66 per cent of the population of the province and adequate vaccination coverage in 8.6 per cent. According to the province’s institute of public health, the INSPQ, 75.4 per cent of the population over the age of 12 has now received a first dose.
The total number of first doses given in the Eastern Townships reached 319,448 on Monday, accounting for 63.2 per cent of the population. Of that number, 33,598 or 6.6 per cent, have also received a second dose. Looked at across age groups, coverage continues to creep upwards. As of Monday’s figures, 45.5 per cent of those 12-17 years of age have received a first dose, along with 56.8 per cent of those 18-29, 60. 4 per cent of those 30-39, and 71.9 per cent of those 40-49. All 50+ age groups in the region are above 82 per cent. The Haut-Saint-François continues to be the sub-region of the townships with the lowest level of vaccine coverage, at 60.2 per cent.
