Repeating a warning that has come up at a number of hospitals across the province in recent weeks, the CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS is calling on the public to avoid trips to the region’s emergency departments unless necessary, due to issues of overcrowding. According to a press release issued on Thursday, the problem is particularly acute at the Granby and Memphremagog hospitals. The local healthcare administration also pointed out that there are over 29,000 doses of the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines available to eligible townshippers over the next seven days in the for both appointments and walk-in clinics. Anyone having trouble with the vaccination process is invited to call 1 877 644-4545 for support.
Another 105,088 doses of vaccine were administered across Quebec as of Thursday morning, for a total of 10,373,663 doses administered altogether. This accounts for adequate vaccination in 58.6 per cent of the population eligible to receive a vaccine, and a first dose in 72.8 per cent of the population as a whole.
The Province of Quebec reported 99 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, bringing the total number of people infected to 376,429. Despite the new cases, this actually marks a decrease in the overall number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic due to the removal of 189 cases deemed to be duplicates.
Thursday’s report also saw the total number of active cases rise back above 700, to 721.
There were three new deaths recorded, for a total of 11,238 so far. Overall hospitalizations decreased by one, to 71, but the number of people in intensive care remained unchanged at 21.
The next update on new cases and vaccination rates in the Eastern Townships is expected to be published by the CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS on Friday, July 23 at 11 a.m. As of Thursday the region was still reporting five people in hospital with no one in intensive care.
