There were nearly 30 student volunteers taking part in the first day of Bishop’s University’s tree planting project on Thursday morning, as the university attempts to plant 10,500 trees throughout campus by next spring.
The project is supported by Tree Canada, a non-profit charitable organization that promotes the planting and nurturing of trees in Canada’s urban and rural areas. It is also part of the university’s Sustainable Development Action Plan, according to Hugh Scott.
“Bishop’s has a commitment to become carbon neutral I believe by 2030 and it has already involved itself in other energy friendly projects. I’m not as familiar with those as I am with the tree aspect, but it’s part of an overall sustainable development program,” he said.
