Transport Minister François Bonnardel was in Sherbrooke on Wednesday morning to announce $342,174,560 in transport infrastructure investments in the region over the next two years. The funding exceeds that announced in the 2021-23 plan last year by almost $100 million, but is focused on only 103 projects as compared to 143.
According to the transport minister, the increase in funding is due, in part, to the inclusion of the Granby and Brome-Missisquoi MRCs in the Estrie region.
The most significant projects on the list are the construction of phase three of Autoroute 35 from Saint-Sébastien to Saint-Armand and the reconfiguration of the intersection of routes 112 and 139 in Granby, both of which have estimated costs in excess of $50 million. There are also two project that fall into the $25 million to $50 million category; the project to reconfigure route 139 between route 112 and Dufferin Street in Granby and the project to build a new bridge over Autoroute 10, again on route 139 in Granby.
