The Province of Quebec reported 1,938 people in hospital with COVID-19 on Tuesday, an increase of 145 compared to Monday’s report. The number of people in hospital directly because of Covid increased by 72, to 838.
The overall number of people in intensive care across the province with the virus decreased by two, to 67, but the number of people in ICUs because of COVID-19 increased by two to 48.
The number of deaths linked to the virus since the start of the pandemic increased by 35 for a total of 14,579.
In the Eastern Townships there were six new covid-related deaths recorded from Monday to Tuesday and the number of people in hospital with the virus increased by two, to 125, two of whom were in intensive care.
On the vaccination front, the province recorded another 26,567 doses administered from Monday, most of which were fourth doses. Eligibility for the second booster shot was expanded to adults 60 and older on Monday, although that change did not result in the same boost in the number of doses administered as happened last week when eligibility was expanded to those 70 and up.
Interim provincial public health director Dr. Luc Boileau has a press conference scheduled for 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Boileau has been holding an update on the sixth wave about once per week for the last several weeks.
