This summer, book an evening at the opera!
Mark your calendars, la Maison d’Opéra et de Concerts de Sherbrooke is preparing a special summer event! On July 8, 2022 at 7:30 p.m., Une soirée à l’opéra (An Evening at the Opera) will offer an anthology of enchanting arias, in solos and duets. This concert will feature Catherine Elvira Chartier and Martin-Michel Boucher, who will perform well-known works that are sure to please. The orchestra of la Maison d’Opéra et de Concerts de Sherbrooke, conducted by Jean-Philippe Dutil, will provide the musical landscape that suits this high-level evening. On the program, works by Bellini, Bizet, Mozart, Offenbach, Puccini, Verdi, Wagner.
This special concert presented at the Saint-Charles-Garnier Church is the prelude to a new project by Pier Carlo Liva, manager of la Maison, who has great ambitions for opera in Sherbrooke… stay tuned!
Catherine Elvira Chartier, soprano. Catherine Elvira Chartier possesses great qualities as a performer and great musicality which make her the most sought-after soprano in the greater Sherbrooke region. She shone in the Cantate en trois lieux by Ingari, premiered in 2013, Le Messie, by Handel,
Brahms’ Requiem, Dvořàk’s Te Deum, the Magnificat by Rutter and other sacred works. In 2016, she created the anthem for the convocation of the Université de Sherbrooke, written for her voice by Robert Ingari. She was the Comtesse in the Noces de Figaro, in a French translation by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt, and worked with renowned chefs such as Ivars Taurins and Bernard Tétu.
Martin-Michel Boucher, baritone. A lyrical artist with a rich and velvety timbre, he stands out for his great musicality as well as the quality and versatility of his dramatic playing. After a master’s degree in singing at the University of Montreal, he enriched his experience by working with many renowned conductors and directors. Active on the Quebec scene, he held more than twenty roles in opera and operetta, some of which have received rave reviews. He launched Vitrail in 2017, an album of sacred arias for voice, organ and oboe, then Un baryton sur Broadway, bringing together the most beautiful arias from musicals, arranged in an original way for orchestra. Next August, Martin-Michel will sing in Gaspésie, his native region: he will give a concert inspired by melodies by Spanish composers adapted for soprano, baritone and guitar.
