A local writer and director is hoping to find cast members for his upcoming play, the Bride of Memphré.
Ross Murray of Stanstead has been a writer for several decades. Wearing many different hats working as a columnist, communications coordinator, author and blogger, he is now swapping out hats ready to direct his second play – a comedy about a local legend.
Presented by Borderline Players, the play takes place at Blueberry Point on the shores of Lake Memphremagog. A bride and groom get ready for their wedding thinking the only thing that could possibly ruin their wedding day is some “local colour” camped out on the rocks with his cooler of beer. But the ceremony is soon interrupted by a swimmer who claims to have seen Memphré, the legendary creature of the lake.
“That stops the wedding,” explained Murray. “Foundations are rattled, and secrets are revealed in this comedy.”
Looking to find nine actors for the play, Murray said there isn’t a typical “lead” as the play is an ensemble piece where all nine people are on stage almost the entire time.
