By Emilie Hackett, Special to the Record – Michael Page is a familiar face in North Hatley, and that is not only because he is the village’s mayor. In fact, Page has spent most of his life in the quaint lakeside community. Mayor since 2009, Page’s experience in municipal politics dates back all the way to 1999, when he became councillor. Currently on his third mandate, he hopes to keep improving the North Hatley community and helping it adapt in a fast paced, ever-changing society. “I was in my mid-twenties when I first became councillor,” he recalled. “I was married, I started to have children. I realized I wanted to be involved in the municipality for my children and the future generation. My wife and I would speak about what we wanted for them, and entering municipal politics was a good way of having a say in the matter and being involved.” Page added that after 20 years of involvement, it would be difficult to stop now.
