Record Staff – Last week the Val-Saint-François MRC adopted an equality policy between women and men, becoming the second MRC in Estrie to adopt such a policy, after the MRC Memphremagog adopted a similar policy on January 16, 2019. Four areas of intervention have been targeted in the policy: governance, employment, citizen services, and economic development. While women represent only 19 per cent of the elected members of the Val-Saint-François MRC, the equality policy aims in particular to encourage the participation of women in political life and to achieve parity in its decision-making bodies. MRC Prefect and Mayor of Stoke, Luc Cayer, is proud to have participated in such an approach: “I hope that this tool will be used in the municipalities of the MRC and that it will first allow people to become aware of challenges to equality between women and men.
