Despite being passed on in the Major League Baseball (MLB) draft last week, it did not take long for Anthony Quirion, a Dixville, Quebec native, to sign his first professional contract as a free agent.
A standout performer out of Lamar University in Texas, Quirion knew the Philadelphia Phillies were interested in drafting him. They reached out to him a week before the event. But things can change quickly before the draft, which he is all too familiar with now.
“The draft went on, I ended up not getting drafted, and then I got picked up as a free agent by the Phillies. They signed me, and then it was just an unreal feeling, mostly relief, just that stress went away,” said Quirion.
