On Tuesday, saliva samples were taken from the students staying in residence on the Bishop’s campus to be tested and serve as an early warning system to detect possible COVID-19 infection.
According to BU communications director Olivier Bouffard, the test doesn’t substitute public health testing, but pooled saliva testing is faster, less intrusive than a stick up the nose, and is a good way to get an early heads up without burdening the public system.
“Everyone was just coming back for the semester, so this was a good time to do it,” Bouffard explained, adding the school will re-evaluate whether or not to test again at a later date.
