Bolduc becomes fourth Townships Liberal to retire from politics

Last Friday Ghislain Bolduc, Member of the National Assembly for the riding of Mégantic, announced that he will be retiring from politics at the end of this mandate in order to focus on his own projects. In making that announcement, Bolduc became the fourth Liberal MNA in the Eastern Townships to make such an announcement after Guy Hardy in Saint-Francois, Karine Vallières in Richmond, and Pierre Reid in Orford. “The time has come for me to step down so I can spend more time with family and focus on several retirement projects begun when I retired from my career as a Chemical Engineer in 2003,” Bolduc said in his official statement. Bolduc, who is 65, has been serving in the Mégantic riding since 2012. Looking back on the last six years, he highlighted his work on regulation of the transportation of hazardous goods, his work on parks and wildlife and his work as assistant to the Minister responsible for the Eastern Townships and the Minister of Transport analysing the taxi industry as highlights of his time in office. Asked about the decision, the MNA said that his age was the main factor in his decision making. Although not the oldest Quebec politician, Bolduc noted that he has several retirement projects he began roughly a decade ago that have been on hold while he has been in office. “If I don’t start now, it will never happen,” he said.
