Contamination found at former Maysen Pub site

The lot that once held the Maysen Pub on Wellington St. South is contaminated by hydrocarbons and could require decontamination at the City of Sherbrooke’s expense. The treatment of the soil could cost the city up to $250,000. The origin of the hydrocarbons is residue from several service stations that were set up on Wellington South over the years. Standards for underground storage tanks are much improved these days, according to the City’s Urban Infrastructure and Environment Department, but over the years there have been leaks. In June of last year the City announced that the property had been sold for $255,000 to the L.P. Royer company, but the transaction has still not been finalized.
