COVID-19 vaccinations begin in long-term care homes in the Estrie

Wednesday teams from the CIUSSS de l’Estrie-CHUS began vaccinating residents living in CHSLDs in the region.
Of the 30 public and private CHSLDs in the Estrie , 14 will have vaccination teams on site by Friday to administer the Moderna vaccine to residents. That represents a little over 1,000 vulnerable elderly people.
Residents of cold CHSLDs, meaning where no cases of COVID-19 have been recorded, will be the first to be vaccinated. Vaccination began on Tuesday for residents of the CHSLD of the Centre Leclerc Hospital and CHSLD in Granby.
Based on the number of doses of Moderna vaccine allotted for the campaign, all residents of public and private CHSLDs should be vaccinated within three weeks. It is estimated that close to 2,550 at-risk individuals will have been vaccinated by the end of the month.
Since Dec. 23, 1,438 health care workers in the Estrie region have been vaccinated. The vaccination of workers takes place at the Centre de foire de Sherbrooke by appointment.
