Roughly 60 residents living near the banks of Eaton River in Cookshire-Eaton were evacuated yesterday afternoon due to a high risk of flooding. According to Director of Public Safety Eric Cloutier, the town had been monitoring the situation for the past two days when warmer temperatures started and ice began breaking up in the river. Cloutier said residents in the flood plain were told to move any things that they were worried about being damaged (vehicles in storage, tools, equipment in garages) to higher ground and be ready for evacuation.
