Despite valiant efforts, the men’s and women’s basketball teams at Bishop’s University have come up short of capturing championships.
Following a thrilling comeback victory on Thursday night against Concordia, the only thing stopping the women’s team from capturing the gold was the UQAM Citadins.
The visiting team got off to an early 10-0 lead in front of more than 750 fans. The deficit would prove too much to overcome for the Gaiters as the Citadins won by a final of 68-59 to claim their first-ever RSEQ University women’s basketball championship on Saturday in Lennoxville.
Following a 31-point performance Thursday night, Amaiquen Siciliano was Bishop’s top scorer with 19 points while fellow Argentinian Victoria Gauna scored 17 in the loss. The Gaiters also received help off the bench from Sandra Mbekou as she tacked on 12 points on 5-8 shooting.
