The Bishop’s Gaiters scored early and often on route to a 57-19 victory over the McGill Martlets on a sunny Saturday afternoon on Coulter Field in RSEQ University women’s rugby action.
Following a 30-minute delay due to traffic, Bishop’s was poised out of the gate. They scored in the second and seventh minutes to jump out to an early 10-0 advantage. Veteran Erika Scott (Dewittville, QC/John Abbott College) scored her first of three consecutive majors in the 13th minute, all successfully converted. The Gaiters extended their lead to 43-0 before McGill got on the board when Rachelle Villarama scored on the final play of the first half. Jennifer McBain converted to make the score 43-7.
The paced slowed in the second half but Bishop’s was able to maintain dominance. Myriam Elkas (Sherbrooke, QC/Champlain-Lennoxville) scored her second try of the game and Julia Michaudville (Sutton, QC/Champlain-Lennoxville) added her first of the year. McGill responded with a pair of scores themselves to make the final 57-19 in favour of the Gaiters.
The win moves Bishop’s to 2-3 and in third place in the RSEQ B division. McGill falls to 0-5.
