Alexander Galt’s art concentration students will be hosting their annual charity art auction Friday evening in the school’s library, with the proceeds from this year’s works going to support the Mae Sot Education Project. “In the art show we will display and auction 24 original, colour illustrations as well as sell printed posters with the students' poetry and illustrations, for a fixed price,” said Sigal Hirshfeld, who teaches the concentration students along with fellow art teacher April Blampied. “We chose this year to dedicate all profits to the Mae Sot education project at BU.” The Mae Sot Education Project, which has been at work in the community for years, regularly sends local students to volunteer as teachers for refugee children along the Thai-Burmese Border. “One of our recent art concentration alumni, Loic Arguin Mercier, was a teacher ambassador for the project in Thailand,” Hirshfeld explained. “He visited with us and informed students about the project and his own personal experience.” See full story in the Friday, March 23rd edition of The Record.
