The Sherbrooke Phoenix made one of the most significant trade deadline acquisitions in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) this season, sending three first-round draft picks to the Saint John Sea Dogs for highly-touted centre Joshua Roy.
Roy, a 17-year-old former QMJHL first overall pick, played 15 games for the Sea Dogs before the league went into a mandatory break due to COVID-19. He posted 17 points with Saint John, nine goals and eight assists, prior to the deal with Sherbrooke.
But the Quebec native was ready to move on from the team that drafted him in 2019. During a phone interview with The Record, he chose not to discuss his situation in Saint John. Although, he added that all will be revealed in due time.
“I can’t say the reason why, not yet, but yeah, I asked for the trade,” said Roy.
