Three families were able to benefit from the Richmond County Historical Society (RCHS) century property certificate program this year by demonstrating that their family has lived on the same property for at least the last 100 years.
“It’s to honour the families that have lived in the area for so many years,” said Beverly Taber Smith from the RCHS, explaining that this is not the first time that the society has offered such certificates. “Since 2012, RCHS has presented 44 certificates showing that families have owned the same property for 100, or 150 years and four whose families have lived here for 200 years.”
Taber Smith said that the program is all about acknowledging the families in question.
“It’s good for the community to know that there’s this continuity that has existed in some families,” she said.
