Teagan Handley from women’s soccer and Axel Montgomery from men’s rugby are this week’s Provigo, Robert Lafond Bishop’s University Athletes of the Week for the week ending Oct. 15.
Rookie sensation Teagan Handley a midfielder from Kingsville, Ont. scored her first goal as a Bishop’s Gaiter on a beautiful turnaround strike from distance on Sunday as the Gaiters topped the Concordia Stingers 2-0 on Sunday on Coulter Field. She was named game MVP. That came on the heels of another game MVP performance on Friday in the Gaiters 2-1 loss to No. 7 Montreal.
Handley and the Gaiters are back on the pitch on Friday, Oct. 20 when they host the UQTR Patriotes on Coulter Field at 7 p.m.
Montgomery, a senior from Toronto, booted through his fifth penalty on the last play of the game to propel the Bishop’s Gaiters to a 25-23 victory over the Montreal Carabins on Saturday night on Coulter Field.
Montgomery accounted for 20 of the Gaiters 25 points on the night. He also converted the Gaiters’ lone try and was successful on a drop kick early in the second half.
His final stat line ready 5 penalties, 1 conversion and 1 drop kick.
Bishop’s is back on the pitch on Saturday when they travel to face the McGill Redbirds in Montreal in their final regular season game. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
