The Sherbrooke Phoenix were swept by the Chicoutimi Saguenéens in the first round of this year’s Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) playoffs, failing to contain a vaunted offense led by Dawson Mercer, Hendrix Lapierre and Pierrick Dubé.
The Phoenix were outscored 17-8 over three games against the Saguenéens, with Mercer, Lapierre and Dubé combining for 18 points. Sherbrooke struggled to capitalize on the man-advantage, according to head coach Stéphane Julien.
“We competed, but a level of maturity and small details made the difference. I don’t think our special teams were good enough to give us a win,” he said during the team’s end-of-season Zoom press conference.
