The Québec government will spend $40.2 million to fund outdoor playground development projects at around100 early childhood daycare centres. Besides playgrounds, the funds will be used to evaluate services, maintain the ministry's educational program, and increase allocations to coordinating offices. The announcement was made at a press conference Tuesday by Sherbrooke MNA and Family Minister Luc Fortin. These investments are part of the province’s action strategy for children up to eight-years-old. The playground project, which accounts for just over $8 million of the total, aims to instill healthy habits early in a child's development. "It's important that our little ones move around and that, they learn early,” Fortin said. ”Young children are not immune to the problems of obesity.” See full story in the Wednesday, May 23rd edition of The Record.
