The theme is all things music-related this year at the Richmond County Historical Society (RCHS), according to Curator Grace Johnston. While there is already a substantial store of artifacts in the collection, Johnston is inviting people in the area with old instruments, sheet music, records, pictures or stories to contact the museum as the committee puts the finishing touches on the exhibit, which will open officially on May 26. “This is not as cut and dry as the Women in History exhibit,” Johnston said, explaining that there are a lot of different angles to consider with music as a theme. “It’s a work in progress,” she said. “We have a lot of old instruments at the museum,” commented Johnston, many of which would have been handed down for generations. There are the instruments themselves to consider, and also the people who played them and where, she added, referring to barn dances and impromptu jam sessions in people’s homes.
