A large group of people gathered in front of Sherbrooke’s city hall on Wednesday evening to share their concerns about the Russian invasion of Ukraine and to express solidarity with the people of that country. The event was attended by members of the local Ukrainian community, as well as concerned citizens and representatives of the federal, provincial, and municipal governments.
Marie-Claude Bibeau, Canada’s Minister of Agrticulture, Sherbrooke MP Elisabeth Briere, Sherbrooke Mayor Evelyne Beaudin, Sherbrooke MNA Christine Labrie and Richard Goodhue of Amnesty international all made formal addresses to the crowd, after which several different people with personal connections to Ukraine were offered the opportunity to speak. The event also included a minute of silent reflection.
