THE SCOOP

The Mansonville Chapter of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) sponsored by the Missisquoi North Volunteer Centre (CABMN) has been operating under the umbrella of the Youth Centre since 1987 in Potton. Each year a group of youth ages 11-15 interested in building their leadership and team building skills form a youth board supervised by the Youth Centre Coordinator and promote positive decision making, educated learning and community involvement. The group meets every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the youth centre in Mansonville.
This year the SADD Board is made up of eight young people including: Alexis Eldridge, Zennon Fournier, Branden Gagne, Mya Gardner, Sophie Gaulin, Amelya Jersey, Dakota Paige, Leala Perras, supervised by Ethan Ball.
On Saturday, Oct. 28 the group will hold its annual Rock-a-thon fundraiser at the youth centre from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. where the youth will get sponsors/donations for rocking non-stop in rocking chairs for four hours consecutively. The money donated helps with SADD and YC events, the purchasing of equipment for the centre and for promotional materials and more. This year the Youth Centre young Leadership group will be joining SADD in participating in the fundraiser and rocking with them.
Many of these youth are out raising funds and requesting sponsorship for this cause in preparation for the coming weekend event. Besides their regular Jewelery and second-hand sales, this is the one big fundraising event that the group solicits funds for each year. In the past, they have had adult supporters who have also collected donations however this year, they are doing it primarily on their own.
