According to a press release put out by Public Relations Officer Benoit Pellerin of the Service de police de Sherbrooke (SPS), three men were arrested on suspicion of arson the night of July 31.
The press release stated that on Monday evening, July 31, around 11 p.m., witnesses called the police to report a fire in a residence located at 2584 King Street East. All emergency services quickly headed to the scene.
As the first patrol vehicle secured the perimeter, the officers noticed three young men very close to the location who were covered in soot and mud. The fire department confirmed that the fire was of criminal origin. After verifying some elements on-site, the police proceeded to arrest the three suspects.
The three young men, aged 18, 19, and 26, are currently in custody and will be interviewed by the Criminal Investigation Division. All three individuals will be charged with arson. The house had been uninhabited for a few weeks, and, fortunately, no one was injured. The scene is still being protected by the police. Investigators, a forensic identification technician, and the fire inspector will return to the location to analyze the scene.
