Residents of about a dozen Eastern Townships communities will be eligible for compensation from the General Financial Assistance Program for real or imminent damage due to the floods of February 21 and 22, 2018. These floods were caused by mild weather, rain and ice jams. "During these floods, the affected municipalities quickly put in place measures to ensure the safety of their population,” said Minister of Municipal Affairs and Land Occupancy Martin Coiteux. “That is why the Quebec government has authorized this financial assistance to allow these municipalities and the affected citizens to repair the damage." The municipalities now eligible for compensation are Cookshire-Eaton, Dudswell, Dundee, Dunham, Elgin, Hinchinbrooke, Huntingdon, Pike River, Saint-Patrice-de-Beaurivage, Saint-Pie, Ulverton, and Westbury.
